Cummins X15 Fault codes 3714 and 3712

Cummins Aftertreatment
Have you been working on a Cummins ISX15 or QSX15 with fault codes 3714 and 3712 and you want to know how to fix and clear them? Read my guide and get this engine on the road again!

Fault Code: 3712: Aftertreatment SCR Operator Inducement – Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range – Most Severe Level

SPN: 5246 FMI: 0/0

Fault Code: 3714: Engine Protection Torque Derate – Condition Exists

SPN: 1569 / FMI: 11/31

Cummins Fault codes 3712 and 3714. If these fault codes are active, this means the engine performance is already reduced (power derate) and possibly the vehicle speed is also limited.

Both are information-only fault codes which appear when the ECM detects active critical fault codes related to engine operation.

To clear the two fault codes 3712 and 3714, you must address the other fault codes first! Once you clear them and the ECM verifies they have been cleared, this fault code will change to inactive. You might need a key cycle for this to happen.

An alternative solution which I DO NOT recommend, is to clear the fault codes with a diagnostic tool, or even recalibrate the ECM with the same calibration. However, if you do not address the main fault codes, the derate and faults 3712 and 3714 will come back
